In July we made our annual trip to Iowa for
RAGBRAI—the (Des Moines) Register’s
Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa). This
year 14 people from 5 states participated with
our “Team Toe Tyred” and joined the many
thousands of others pedaling across one of the
flattest routes ever. Bob rode his recumbent
tricycle 497 miles on the Iowa ride this year.
This was Bob’s 21st trip, Rachel’s 18th, Jo’s
17th and Joe’s 2nd. Bob has now ridden a bike
more than 10,000 miles in Iowa alone.
And then the big milestone as Rachel married
Joe Kellogg at Mondeaux Dam August 18 in a
service and reception not to be stopped by the
first rain on a Saturday all year. The service
was led by Rachel’s “Auntie Pastor Karen,” one
of her sponsors, and her Dad. Over 100
people—family and friends and congregation
members from First Ogema and Westboro and
the congregation Rachel grew up in, Trinity,
Rolling Meadows, IL—stuck with it through the
rain to see the two wed.

In what some might consider another milestone, Both Bob and Jo shot their first deer this
hunting season. Jo got hers first on early Monday morning of gun season—a small doe with one
shot through the lungs. Bob was inspired by Jo’s success and shot what turned out to be an
antler-less buck the same afternoon with one shot through the heart and lung. Thanks to the
Cummings family for letting us hunt on their land! Thanks to God for granting us a safe
hunting season. We were supposed to hunt again for the “antlerless deer herd control season”
but chickened out when we got up at 4:30 a.m. the first day to see that the temperature was –28.
Now we’re both full into the planning and worshiping during the Advent-Christmas time.
May God bless you this Christmas season and grant you a joyous new year.
Love,
Bob & Jo Giese
