The Giese Christmas Letter 2008
In August Bob & Jo drove to
Cheyenne, Wyoming to celebrate
the marriage of god-daughter Emily
Stiller to Nofo Lilo.  The couple
actually had eloped earlier in the
year so this was the big family
party on the Air Force base where
Nofo serves.

For Thanksgiving this year
Grandpa & Grandma Zutz treated
all the family that could make it at
a banquet hall in Brillion, WI
where they live.  It was great fun,
but we’re taking it back next year!

Now we’re both full into the
planning and worshiping during the
Advent-Christmas time.  Jo will be
King Herod in First Ogema’s
Children’s Christmas service.  Is
that type-casting?  On Christmas
Day we’ll go to Bob’s sister
Debbie’s house in Victoria, MN
and have dinner with Deb, Kevin &
Steve and Bob’s Dad, Walt.  Then
we’ll head on down to Decorah,
Iowa to have Christmas with
Rachel & Joe and hopefully Serina.

In 2006 we purchased 13 acres of
land with a barn and old trailer
home just east of Ogema.  When
Bob said he planned to rehab the
trailer for our retirement home, Jo
rolled her eyes and then dubbed it
“the Hovel.”  In 2007 Bob put a
pitched roof on and this year added
an accessible porch with an
enclosed entrance room.

He incorporated windows from the old church addition.    Jo’s even thinking of withdrawing the name “Hovel” in favor
of “Country Estate.”   At the current rate it should be habitable by the time we retire.  (Oh, that’s right, thanks to the
economy that will probably be never.)

There are already big plans for 2009.  At the end of January we’ll go to Las Vegas to celebrate Jo’s parents’ 60th
wedding anniversary.  As much traveling as we’ve done, we’ve always driven around LV.  Not this time.  (After all, Bob
has to win back all he’s lost from his pensions this year.  Right.  His limit is one roll of nickels.)
Then the day after Easter Bob and
Rachel leave with a small group from
the northwoods taking a 16 day
“Exodus Pilgrimage” to Egypt, Jordan
and Israel.  Rachel the procrastinator
has already started packing her bags.  It
is exciting.  But Jo and Joe decided not
to join us on this one and are thinking
of going on a fishing trip instead.  Bob’
s hoping for lots of good stories for
future sermons to come out of this trip
he’s been hoping to make for years.

Then on August 30 First Westboro will
celebrate 125 years as a congregation.
Synod Bishop Duane Petersen is
already on tap to preach and other
great festivities are being planned to
mark this milestone.
May God bless you this Christmas season and grant you a joyous new year.

Love,
Bob & Jo Giese
